Camfil collaborated with the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands to provide a custom-made filtration solution for a boat running on hydrogen. When hydrogen is consumed in a fuel cell, it only produces water, which makes it a clean fuel. The project was part of the TU Delft Solar Boat Team’s effort to support the maritime sector’s transition to green energy.
The objective was to protect the equipment from sea salt, water droplets, humidity and dirt. Camfil’s CamVane air filter was used on the outside of the boat to capture water droplets from the air stream and to provide corrosion protection. On the inside, Camfil’s CamClose caught and drained any small water droplets that passed by the CamVane, minimising the amount of water reaching the final filter. The boat was also equipped with an intake panel filter with high-efficiency CamGT filter media.

To uplift air filtration standards in the Chinese biopharma industry, Sinopharm GEPTECK entered into a strategic collaboration with Camfil in 2021. The objective was to develop a digital high-efficiency air supply unit for applications with rigorous cleanliness requirements in cell therapy, such as vaccines, biological products, sterile preparations, sterile APIs, blood products, CAR-T, etc.
The concept includes real-time monitoring of air volume and rapid response adjustment, online control of volume balance and pressure difference, etc. The benefits are precise air supply, reduced energy waste, shorter debugging times and trend analysis that enables preventive maintenance. A truly intelligent and energy-saving air supply unit.
Sinopharm is the largest pharmaceutical and healthcare group under the State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council in China. Their core business is pharmaceutical distribution, scientific research and the manufacture of medical and biotech products.

In 2021, Camfil Italy donated three City M air purifiers to the reading room at Il Pertini, which is the town library and cultural center in the Italian municipality of Cinisello Balsamo, just north of central Milan.
The purpose of the donations was to ensure a safe reopening of the center while the COVID-19 pandemic was still ongoing.
The City M air purifier exchanges the air about sixteen times per day. It has a HEPA H14 filter with a certified filtration efficiency of 99.995%, even on the smallest air particles. This includes the elimination of viruses, pollen, bacteria, particulate matter, ozone, chemicals and other harmful contaminants.

In 2021, we invested heavily in Camfil’s R&D capabilities by almost doubling the floor space in our largest development center, the Tech Center in Trosa, Sweden. The center was expanded by more than 2,300 square meters.
The new premises are for testing and learning methods, machine upgrades and process development, including research on and development of new raw materials. One of the first objectives has been to accelerate the development of more energy-efficient filter media and develop new sustainable raw materials for frames and adhesives.
The Tech Center houses five laboratories for research and innovation in the fields of particle filtration, HEPA technology, molecular filtration, indoor air quality (IAQ) and solutions for the gas turbine industry.
“The clean air trend has become even more evident during the pandemic. The demand for highly efficient and sustainable air filters is constantly growing globally. This fact and advances in process technology and material science render new opportunities.” - Anders Sundvik, Vice President of R&D at Camfil.

The University College Dublin and the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Ireland conducted a study to examine the effectiveness of air purifiers in unventilated spaces. They found that Camfil's City M air purifier removes aerosols from poorly ventilated rooms at four times the normal rate - and that it can help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
This is especially significant since WHO has declared COVID-19 to be mostly transmitted through the inhalation of airborne aerosols within close range.

A retrofit gas turbine filtration solution by Camfil Italy helped Alto Garda Power save approximately 650,000 cubic meters of fuel annually and reduce CO2 emissions by 11,000 tons.
The fuel savings were achieved through pressure drop savings and fouling reduction.
Alto Garda Power is located at the northern end of Lake Garda in northern Italy. They manage a power plant that supplies electricity and steam to paper mills as well as heating for the town of Riva del Garda, including offices, schools, kindergartens, etc.
To increase the performance of the 44 MW gas turbines, Camfil Power Systems was asked to optimise the existing filtration system. The aim was to decrease the total pressure drop (dP) to achieve:
Camfil suggested a 2-stage static filter solution consisting of two airtight filter banks holding the CamFlo Hybrid F7 pocket air filters and the CamGT 3V-600 E10 final EPA air filters.
After two years, the Camfil solution continued to maintain a low and stable pressure drop. As a result, pre-filter replacements decreased to once per year during the power plant's annual outage.

Camfil partnered with the Soho Parish Primary School in London to improve the air quality for students and staff. Thirteen City M air purifiers were installed in classrooms and common areas to provide protection from the harmful effects of air pollutants and viruses. This was part of an effort to safeguard the health of students and staff when reopening the school after the UK pandemic restrictions.
Other examples of Camfil providing help to counteract the COVID-19 pandemic could be found in Valencia, Spain, where the education department installed Camfil air filtration solutions in schools, and in France, where a clinical study showed that Camfil HEPA air purifiers can remove more than 99.9% of all viruses in the air.

In October 2021, Camfil Power Systems introduced a new CamClose panel air filter for turbomachinery designed to extend the service life of the final filter. Adding the CamClose pre-filter in front of a final filter will also further improve filtration efficiency.
The CamClose offers best-in-class water handling and a user friendly and robust design, making it an excellent pre-filter for most turbomachinery and gas turbine applications, especially in humid conditions.
“The new features of the CamClose pre-filter will simplify the installation process, improve filtration performance, and offer excellent protection in wet environments.”- Gautam Marwaha, Product Manager, GT Filtration, Camfil Power Systems.
