R&D network – Tech centre

Camfil is a family company with a huge interest and stake in technology. We have always made substantial investments in R&D because it is a very important factor for our future and the future of air filtration.

This R&D focus has driven the Group forward for over 50 years and helped position us a leader in air filtration and clean air solutions today.

Global and regional R&D in six countries

In addition to our main innovation hub in Trosa, Sweden – the Tech Centre – the Group has local R&D facilities in Germany, France, the United States, Malaysia and China for researching and developing everything from comfort air filters and clean room filters, to AMC filtration solutions and gas turbine filters, among other key product areas.

Using advanced research and test equipment – some of which are unique and feature proprietary designs – we can conduct R&D globally and regionally to meet the growing need for air filtration solutions that safeguard health, satisfy stricter energy efficiency and sustainability standards, and meet emerging needs for high-tech filtration.
With our global R&D network, we can also steadily maintain, improve and advance our product portfolio across all business areas. We can also drive the development of new innovative filters and solutions.

Examples of our laboratory and testing facilities

Molecular Lab

Research and measurement techniques for Airborne Molecular Contamination (AMC) filtration solutions.

GT/APC Lab

Development of filtration systems for the gas turbine (GT) industry and the Air Pollution Control (APC) segment (dust collection systems).

Particle Labs

Development of comfort air and High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters, focusing on filter efficiency, performance and filter media. Activities include aerosol tests, nano-particle measurements and testing in rigs to classify filters according to European and U.S. standards. We also document energy consumption and assess lifetime performance.

Indoor Air Quality Lab

This lab analyzes air samples for customer troubleshooting, problem solving and air quality assessment. The microstructure of filters is also investigated to ensure the best possible class filtration performance and consistent product quality. Particles are analyzed in a state-of-the-art Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), using also EDAX (Energy Dispersive Analysis X-Ray) and gas chromatography equipment.
