Air quality recommendations for beauty salons

Created Monday, 21 June 2021

Beauty salons are often areas that suffer from poor ventilation and poor Indoor air quality. Airborne contaminants such as viruses and Volatile Organic Compounds (such as benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene, formaldehyde and acetaldehyde) can be a risk to your salons staff and clients. Improving air quality in your salon can help create a reduced risk environment and protect the health of the people within your building

What air filtration levels are needed

In Beauty salons there are two main sources of airborne contaminants that are of concern. The first concern is of airborne viruses that can spread between your staff and your clients . The second concern is the level of VOCs that are in the air that are generated by hairsprays and other beauty products

For Airborne viruses HEPA filtration is the recommended solution as it can remove 99.995%(H14) of viruses. For VOCs a molecular or carbon filter is needed to capture and eliminate these airborne contaminants from your beauty salon.
