Breathe clean, choose green

Camfil has been focused on sustainability since our foundation 1963 - it's ingrained in our identity and operations. Considering that we typically spend 90% of our time indoors, it's crucial to make informed choices about the clean air solutions your building requires. The question is what makes a sustainable solution? Let’s explore how, at Camfil, we work with sustainable practices through the cradle to grave approach for our clean air solutions.

Comparing sustainable solutions

Two filters placed side by side may appear identical on the outside, however when we look deeper elements such as energy costs, operational lifetime and disposal costs can really differentiate between a clean air solution and a sustainable clean air solution.

Gabriele Bosco is our Product Sustainability Manager EMEA with many years of experience within this field. Find his seven most important considerations for choosing a sustainable filter solution in his blog post.

TCO vs LCC

So what is the true cost of a filter? It extends beyond the initial purchase; there are various aspects and expenses associated with installation and replacement. Hence, it's prudent to examine the life cycle cost (LCC) or total cost of ownership (TCO) of a filter. As depicted in the graphic, only 10% of the total cost pertains to the filter itself, with the bulk being attributed to energy expenses.

Camfil’s R&D Department provides a Life Cycle Cost (LCC) software to help air filter users to select the best filtration solution in terms of indoor air quality (IAQ) and energy performance. The software considers filter efficiency, filter life, filter change labor, filter cost, disposal costs and allows for varied inputs for all of these factors plus the largest filter expense – energy usage. Empowering you to make wise and informed decisions. Please contact your local Camfil representative to know more about this type of analysis for your site.

Sustainability without compromise

Camfil has had sustainability at the forefront of our mind since day one. Together with our customers, employees and stakeholders we believe that we can help shape a truly sustainable future without compromise. Taking a holistic approach we look at the entire product life cycle including energy cost, filter cost, replacement cost, labour and disposal costs. We focus on both efficiency and design so our products can deliver superior performance, while achieving the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO). In 2023, a new sustainability framework was implemented within operational processes, emphasising the journey towards achieving net-zero emissions. As a result we are taking major leaps to minimize our environmental footprint and to maximize our customers’ handprint in delivering clean air everywhere.

Sustainable faq

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) tells the life cycle story of a product in a single, comprehensive report. The EPD provides information about a product's impact upon the environment. These reports are used to understand the carbon footprint of products utilised on your facility.

Here is the link to the list of EPDs we currently provide, as of today we have focused on our most popular products but we are constantly working on adding to the collection.

By investing in A+ energy products you can change less and gain more, opting for these products allows you to reclaim labour hours and warehouse space by optimising changeout intervals. This results in reduced labour costs and less waste generated as fewer filters are needed meaning less waste must be incinerated or recycled, making our A+ products the optimum choice.
