Approximately 40,000 pieces of music equipment, parts, and accessories are stored in the Thomann logistics centre, which covers an area of around 37,500-meter square and has space for over 10,000 pallets. Due to the daily stock turnover, a lot of dust is generated in the ambient air. This is also a concern with occupational health and safety. As a consequence, healthy indoor air quality became a primary focus at Thomann. In addition to product quality, the ability of employees to work and maintain their health is a must. The measured total particle concentration (PM1, PM2.5, and PM10) in the ambient air rises to approx. 680 micrograms/m³ at peak times (approx. half of which are respirable PM1 particles). Irritations of the mucous membrane occurred more frequently which is not an ideal condition for handling music equipment and for employees who spend the whole day in the hall. Thomann GmbH searched for a solution to this problem. The challenge was to improve the indoor air quality using low energy consumption and in doing so, protect the health of the employees and continue to have satisfied customers by offering top quality products.
"You only get satisfied customers and employees if you make a special effort when it comes to the details. This also applies to our logistics centre. With the use of the air cleaners, we have firmly controlled the dust in the indoor environment." - Hans Thomann, Managing Director, Thomann GmbH, Treppendorf near Bamberg(Bavaria)
