Energy optimisation

Camfil contacted Sky-Light with a focus on energy optimisation of Sky-light's existing ventilation system.

Allan Schultz Møllgaard, maintenance team leader at Sky-Light, was interested in learning more, so Camfil prepared life cycle calculations (LCC) via a simulation program to determine if it was possible to achieve energy savings.

The program used, calculates the total cost of ownership (TCO) based on input from among other things, air volume, size of filters, operating time, filter class (ISO 16890) and kWh price.

In Sky-Light's case, the calculations were made based on their previous filters and Camfil's Hi-Flo XLT bag filters, which have been developed to deliver good indoor air quality while achieving energy savings.

Effective testing & good results

The result in the calculation report was so positive that Allan Schultz Møllgaard wanted to test Camfil's Hi-Flo XLT filters with 12 full-module filters in one of the company’s 12 ventilation systems (VE-03). The test ran for a full 23 weeks before it was time to replace Camfil's filters. In comparison, the previously installed filters had to be replaced twice within the same period of time. According to Allan and Sky-Light's own calculations, a 16% energy saving was achieved.

"We did a test over approx. 23 weeks with a saving of approximately 16%. We also achieved savings in the form of service intervals, as the filters do not have to be replaced as often. Sky-Light has chosen to continue with filters from Camfil in several of our systems in the future." - Allan Schultz Møllgaard, Maintenance team leader at Sky-Light

Development during the test period

In addition, labour costs were reduced as Camfil's filters did not have to be replaced as often and therefore not purchased as often. It is a more sustainable solution, as less waste will be generated due to fewer filter changes.

The result of the test was instrumental in Sky-Light’s decision in changing over to Hi-Flo XLT filters in the future. A change that is right in the spirit of Sky-Light, where focus is on the environment and resources.

Allan Schultz Møllgaard, Maintenance team leader at Sky-Light, says:

”After being contacted by Camfil's competent salesperson, we decided together to make an attempt at optimising our filters in the ventilation system. We installed the filters suggested by Camfil and started monitoring pressure drop and energy. Based on measurements, we have monitored the existing filters and were able to make a comparison quite quickly. We did a test over approx. 23 weeks with a saving of approximately 16%. We also achieved savings in the form of service intervals, as the filters do not have to be replaced as often. Sky-Light has chosen to continue with filters from Camfil in several of our systems in the future.”

Key benefits of Hi-Flo XLT

Hi-Flo XLT bag filters not only save money and energy, but are also a more sustainable product to protect the planet, buildings and people.

  • Energy savings kWh
  • Purchase of fewer filters
  • Less downtime and labour for filter changes
  • Reduced waste (fewer filter changes)
  • Sustainable solution

About Sky-Light

Sky-Light was established in 1960 and is located in Varde, Denmark. The company has over 120 employees and produces more than 20,000 tonnes of foil and more than 650 million items per year.

Sky-Light focuses on the environment and resources, which means that they recycle production waste and work constantly to minimise resource consumption and environmental impact by optimising recycling and own energy usage.
