Air quality recommendations for schools

Created Monday, 16 August, 2021

Did you know that by improving air quality your schools can not only protect against the spread of airborne viruses (such as Covid 19) but studies have also shown that it can also help improve the productivity of students and also improve their mood? When improving air quality in your school there are more airborne contaminants that should be considered alongside viruses. Reducing Particulate Matter (such as dust and pollen) can reduce the effects of allergies and asthma, while removing gaseous contaminants such as NO2 is also important to students long term health

Air quality in schools

Proof of concept - capturing airborne viruses

In the Auvergne Rohn region in France a clinical study was conducted around the efficiency of HEPA air purifiers at capturing Covid 19. In this clinical study it was shown that Camfil HEPA air purifiers would capture and remove large concentrations of  Covid 19. By creating 10 air changes per hour (ACH) it was seen that the City M product would capture more than 99.9% of the virus in the air. The video shows the results of this test and why it has been implemented in these school regions. Key points from this video include:

  1. HEPA air purifiers are an effective solution - removing 99.9% of airborne viruses
  2. Risk factors in schools can be reduced by utilising HEPA air purification systems
  3. six air changes per hour is ideal for school environments
