Chemical Isolation & Suppression

Chemical isolation and suppression systems are used to detect and suppress explosions or fires within dust extraction systems and thus protect the dust collector and wider facility. It is often used when it is not possible to safely vent an explosion or where the dust is harmful or toxic. The system continually monitors system pressures / temperatures and when extreme conditions are detected it is activated in milliseconds and releases a chemical agent to extinguish flames before an explosion can occur.

  • Active explosion protection system
  • Contain harmful emissons in case of an explosion
  • Application-specific substances to suppress the explosion
  • Isolation barrier does not generate any additional pressure drop
  • No risk zones required
  • Equipment certified to ATEX, in compliance with NFPA

Specifications

Application
- Chemical isolation and chemical suppression is mostly used on pharmaceutical & chemical processes.

Comment
Chemical Isolation:
Chemical isolation is used to detect and suppress explosions from propagating down a ductwork system. Reacting within milliseconds of detecting an explosion, this system can be installed in the inlet or outlet ducting. Typical components include explosion pressure detector(s), flame detector, chemical agent, and a control panel. It creates a chemical barrier that suppresses the explosion within the ducting and reduces the propagation of flame through the ducting.

Chemical Suppression:
Chemical suppression is used to detect and suppress explosions within an enclosed vessel. It is often used to protect the dust collector when it is not possible to safely vent an explosion or where the dust is harmful or toxic. The system detects an explosion hazard within milliseconds and releases a chemical agent to extinguish the flame before an explosion can occur.

We supply equipment which is compliant according to regional regulation such as ATEX or NFPA.

Mitigate combustion risks & protect from dust explosions

Almost all industrial manufacturing, processing or packaging applications generate dust as a side effect. Many of these dusts are both combustible as well as explosive, and removing them from the work place can significantly reduce the risk of serious accidents. It is estimated that there are approximately 2,000 dust explosions in Europe annually. Most of these are minor but some are very destructive. So by extracting the dust, the risk in the production is reduced, but unless the extraction system is safe the risk is just moved.
